Essay Writing: My Personal view in Learning Community Mr. Enrique Guevara

Introduction

We don't live in a vacuum. We live in a society. We are part of society. Our society influences us to the extent that we allow ourselves to be influenced by it. Our thoughts, values, and actions are somehow shaped by events and by people with whom we come in contact. We, in turn, help shape society – its events, its people, and its destiny.

“The ability to learn is the most significant activity of a man” by anonymous. Learning is to knowledge or skills by study (Webster’s New Pocket Dictionary). It is a lifelong process. From the day we were born, our learning also spring forth. Every second we take into our lives, learning is always there. It grows with us. We learned new things every day in our lives. It is a part of us and we cannot be totally human without it. It enables us to establish decisions and form the right choice.

“A healthy social life is found only, when in the mirror of each soul the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the whole community the virtue of each one is living” by Rudolf Steiner quotes. Community is a body of people living in the same place (Webster New Dictionary). As a social being, we cannot live alone. We need people that would help us in everyday living. We need companion in order for us to live meaningfully in the place were we belong, the place we are currently living, the world. As a living organism, we are opt to interact with each other, we are opt to share ideas and beliefs to the person nearby, the people in the community. We tend to have interaction through communication in order for us to understand each other and anticipate each individuals need.

"We use the term community centered to refer to several aspects of community, including the classroom as a community, the school as a community, and the degree to which students, teachers, and administrators feel connected to the larger community of homes, businesses, states, the nation, and even the world."(How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience, and School; Bransford, Brown, & Cocking (Eds.), 2000, pp.144-145). Learning community is the mainspring of effective and powerful forces that can create a wholesome climate for mutual gains and betterment. It is willing to share information as well as responsibility to the best interest of a learner while in school, likewise when dealing with members in the community. A learning community is any one of a variety of curricular structures that link together several existing courses - or actually restructure the curricular material entirely – so that students have opportunities for deeper understanding of an integration of the material they are learning, and more interaction with one another and their teachers as fellow participants in the learning enterprise. (Gabelnick, Macgregor, Matthews & Smith, 1990, p.19). John Donne said in his song “No Man Is an Island”... “No man stands alone...We need one another”... In the context in the life of a teacher, I would say, “No teacher is an island. No teacher stands alone”. Indeed, as a Bachelor of Elementary Education major in Special Education students, we cannot be a teacher alone. We need people to accompany us in going along with the said profession we are currently into as of this point in time. I think of all those people who are helping me now to achieve my dreams in life, to become a teacher in the near future. In fact, soon I will be called “Teacher” in relation to a student, in the same manner that my student will be called “Student” in relation to me as a teacher.

Conclusion:

I therefore conclude that education is very much important in one’s life. Education is not just a must but a necessity as instead. As a student, I am task to exert more efforts in studying me lessons well at this point in time. I must grab this big opportunity that God our father had given me. I am liable also to share my knowledge and ideas to others in order for them to get things well. It is really true that no man is an island. That none of us can live and stands alone. We must have companion. As an individual, we need to be vigilant in our community. We need to share ideas to others and get new ideas from others. It is important for us to deal with other people especially to our community in order for us to have further knowledge and enhance our learning skills.
